School, GPA, work, relationships, my future, my past and all the things that have been on my mind for the passed few months seemed to vanish for a few moments the other day.
I didn't seem to mind the hot sun roasting the top of my head or the sweat slowly beading down my back. The corn was so thick I couldn't even see through the first row of what seemed to be an endless sea of stalks. I felt myself getting lost in the sounds of the warm Oklahoma breeze that swept through the field stirring up the leaves and locusts. My biggest issue is my lack of patience. If I could change anything about myself, I'd change how impulsive I am. Sometimes, it can be a strength, it can be fun. Too often than not, I'll find myself neck-deep in a smelly pile of trouble. I am constantly doing and planning. It drives me crazy to be unsure about my next step in life. I had to come to grips recently that sometimes, the best thing to do in life is to wait and listen. For the average Joe, if he wants corn, he goes to the store and buys it. But for the farmer, he works and preps the land and plants the seed. He does all he can. But then...he waits. Do all you can. Plant your seed. Then wait. If you have worked hard and prepped, believe your harvest is coming. Our biggest problem as people, I believe, is anxiety. I don't know a single person who doesn't deal with anxiety. Here's an idea -- do all that you can do and then give the rest do God. Easier said than done, I know. I encourage you to actually give the stress to God. How? Take care of what's in your control... and then stop worrying. As Christians, a lot of times we say we trust God but then we don't act it out. Do you actually trust that he can do all things? Do you actually trust and believe Jeremiah 29:11 or do you just have it cross-stitched on that pillow in your living room? To trust God is to give him your stress. It's a learned discipline that requires you actively pushing out stress everyday and replacing it with talking to God, listening to worship music or just by telling yourself to stop stressing. Close your eyes for a moment and think of my field. Think of the breeze through the stalks. Think of the juicy corn waiting to be harvested. You are on the brink of your next stage of life. It's ripe and ready. Believe this truth. Feel this freedom. Get ready, Beloved. Your harvest is coming.
